Volunteers
Anyone wishing to assist in any of the TMSG activities as a volunteer please contact our office. A Volunteer Coordinator will assist you in deciding which activity is best suited to your interests and skills and to the needs of TMSG at the time of registering as a volunteer.
A volunteer information session is held on the FIRST Tuesday of each month… e.g. April 5th 2011, May 3rd 2011, June 7th, July 5th, August 2nd, September 6th, October 4th, November 1st 2011 5.30p.m.-7p.m.
PLEASE NOTE:
People interested in being a volunteer MUST attend the information Session prior to registration. All necessary documentation will be provided at the session and any further discussions will be arranged at that session .
Volunteers at TMSG are involved in many different ways including:
• Conducting Friday morning English Language classes
• Friday sewing and craft classes
• Assistance in office administration
• Quarterly newsletter production
• Monthly Multicultural Women’s Group activities
• Assistance in settling Refugees in the initial months of their arrival in Townsville
• Longer term support to settlement of refugees and migrants
Multicultural Womens' Group
The aim of the TMSG Women's Group is:
• to bring together women of different ethnic backgrounds, working in a spirit of friendship
• to address their needs through greater participation in and contribution to a better quality of life for our multicultural society
• to provide information sessions on a variety of topics through engaging guest speakers professionals from businesses and non-government organisations
• to promote social interaction for women particularly those of non-English-speaking background (ESL).
The Multicultural Women's Group meetings are held on the 4th Friday of every month from 10a.m to 12noon, at the TMSG Office.
Newsletter
A quarterly newsletter aims to keep TMSG members and the wider community informed about TMSG activities and keep in touch with group activities and information relevant to newly arrived humanitarian entrants and migrants. When you become a member of TMSG your name will be enlisted on the TMSG database so that you will receive a hard copy of our newsletter by mail. To ensure you receive a copy of the newsletter, please call us to update your postal address.
English, Craft and Sewing Classes
English language, arts, cooking, sewing and craft classes are held regularly. They are very popular and well attended.
